The Green Hornets cheerleading program produced a string of successful performances at the 12U, 8U and 6U levels this fall.
Green Hornets Cheerleaders Cap Successful Fall Season
It was a successful fall season for the Green Hornets cheerleading program.
Three Green Hornets cheerleading squads — the 12U/10U, 8U and 6U teams — competed at various competitions throughout the season, each turning in multiple strong performances.
The 12U/10U team of Shea Cassidy, Abigail Chase, Mackenzie Clark, Kaelin Cservek, Paige Davis, Savannah Gibson, Kaylie Greenleaf, Sophia Leon, Maddie McGurk, Adriana Merlini, Riley Morris, Kelly Moy, Kate Roberts, Sarah Rowland and Jessica Smith, coached by April Morris, Catherine Myers, Maryellen Myers and Brooke Carson, produced a pair of first-place wins. On October 28, the team took first place at the Maryland Halloween Classic and also received the honorable Grand Champion Award for the highest score in their division. On November 5, at the larger and highly competitive Retro Rock competition, the team took first place once again.
Carson and Maryellen Myers are Severna Park High School seniors and former Green Hornet cheerleaders who volunteer their time after high school practice to help develop the skills of the younger athletes on the 12U/10U squad.
The 8U team of Megan Dottellis, Kayla Camacho, Bella Dameron, Jules Dameron, Lilly Hittle, Gabriella James, Allison Moran, Erin O’Connor, Jordyn Urban and Brooklyn Weber placed second at the Maryland Halloween Classic and third at the Retro Rock. Green Hornets cheerleading commissioner Wendy Greenleaf praised 8U coaches Tyeler Clapp and Muntana Hittle as “extremely devoted,” adding Clapp is a former Green Hornets and All-Star Level 4 cheerleader “whose talent has been an asset to the Green Hornets cheer program.”
The 6U team of Jessy Bertha, Alice Collins, Brynne Greenleaf, Skylar Greenleaf, Gretchen Keefer, Katherine Kelly, Kaylee Kendle, Sophia Lebowitz, Brooke Sabban and Lyla Stohler improved upon its second-place finish at the Maryland Halloween Classic to take first place at the Retro Rock competition.
“Coaches Carol Collins, Candice Sabban and Mary Seeley did an amazing job of coaching these itty bitty athletes,” Greenleaf said of the 6U coaches. “Mary is an SPHS senior who shared her skills and inspired the squad. Carol created the perfect blend of fun and structured practices that resulted not only in a successful season but a love for the sport in our newest cheerleaders.”
Greenleaf said the entire fall season was one of growth and success for the program’s hardworking athletes.
“It’s been wonderful to see all of our athletes develop their skills and improve with each week,” she said. “Our select squad continues to aim high as we enter our winter season.”
